Common questions

FAQ

What does pharmaceutical and GMP training cover?

Pharmaceutical and GMP training teaches the principles and practices that keep medicines safe, consistent and compliant. Typical topics include GMP requirements, pharmaceutical quality systems, deviations and OOS investigations, CAPA and root cause analysis, validation and qualification, data integrity, documentation and inspection readiness. Courses focus on applying these requirements to everyday manufacturing and quality work.

Which GMP regulations and guidelines should pharmaceutical professionals know?

It depends on your markets. Common references include FDA's cGMP regulations (21 CFR Parts 210 and 211), EU GMP (EudraLex Volume 4, including Annex 1, Annex 11 and Annex 15), ICH Q7, Q9 and Q10, WHO GMP guidelines and PIC/S guides. Computerized systems also bring in 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11.

Who should take GMP training?

GMP training is useful for professionals in pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, validation, regulatory affairs, regulatory compliance, production, auditing and consulting. Managers and team leaders responsible for GMP activities also benefit, as do new team members building foundations and experienced staff keeping up with changing expectations.

Why is GMP training important for pharmaceutical professionals?

GMP is a legal requirement for marketed medicines, and both the US and the EU require trained personnel. In the US, a drug not made in line with cGMP is considered adulterated under the FD&C Act, regardless of test results, and 21 CFR 211.25 requires ongoing cGMP training. In the EU, manufacturing authorization holders must comply with GMP (Directive 2001/83/EC and Directive 2003/94/EC), and EudraLex Volume 4, Chapter 2 requires initial and continuing training, with its effectiveness periodically assessed. Training helps teams apply requirements consistently, avoid inspection findings and warning letters, and stay audit-ready.

What is the difference between GMP and a pharmaceutical quality system?

GMP sets the regulatory requirements for manufacturing and controlling medicines. A pharmaceutical quality system (PQS), as described in ICH Q10, is the management framework of processes, responsibilities, management review and continual improvement that a company uses to meet GMP and manage quality across the product lifecycle.

What is the difference between deviations, OOS investigations and CAPA?

A deviation is a departure from approved procedures or specifications. An out-of-specification (OOS) result is a test result outside established acceptance criteria and is investigated under a structured process, such as FDA's OOS guidance. CAPA (corrective and preventive action) is the follow-up that fixes the root cause and prevents recurrence. Effective investigations connect all three.

Why is data integrity important in GMP?

Data integrity ensures the records behind quality and release decisions are complete, consistent, accurate and trustworthy throughout their lifecycle. Expectations are commonly described by ALCOA+ (attributable, legible, contemporaneous, original, accurate, plus complete, consistent, enduring and available). Regulators including FDA, MHRA and PIC/S publish dedicated data integrity guidance, and failures are a recurring inspection finding.

What does validation and qualification mean in GMP?

Validation is documented evidence that a process, system or method consistently delivers the intended result. In GMP it includes process validation, equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), cleaning validation, analytical method validation and computerised system validation. FDA describes process validation as a lifecycle, and EU Annex 15 covers qualification and validation.

How do I choose the right pharmaceutical GMP training course?

Match the course to your role and current knowledge. Manufacturing and production staff usually start with GMP fundamentals, documentation and contamination control. QA professionals often need quality systems, deviations, CAPA, audits and data integrity. QC staff benefit from OOS and laboratory data integrity content. Validation teams need qualification and validation courses. Not sure? Contact us for course suggestions or browse all courses.

Do I need prior GMP experience to take these courses?

Not necessarily. Introductory GMP courses are designed to build foundational knowledge, while specialised courses on topics such as investigations, validation or data integrity suit professionals already working in quality, manufacturing or compliance. Each course page lists the intended audience, so you can check it before enrolling.
